چکیده
The VISA+ hardware architecture is the first of a new genera tion of graphics accelerators designed primarily to render bump-, texture-, environmentand environment-bump-mapped polygons. This paper presents examples of the main graphical capabilities and discusses methods and simplifications used to create high quality images. One of the key concepts in the VISA+ design, the use of reflectance cubes, is predestined for environment mapping. In combination with bumpand texture mapping it shows the strength of our new architecture. Furthermore_ it justifies some of·.the decision's made during simulation and development of the complex VISA+ architec ture.

متن کاملHardware Supported Bump Mapping: A Step towards Ingber Quality Real-Time Rendering
Today's high-end Gouraud renderers produce nicely textured scenes by mapping two-dimensional images onto modeled objects in real· time. We present a renderer which textures surfaces in the normal sense of the word using bump textures to simulate wrinkled or dimpled color ful surfaces. Using a simplified bump mapping method we first suc ceeded in designing a real-time bump mapping renderer bas...
متن کاملShading by Quaternion Interpolation
The purpose of this paper is to show that linear interpolation of quaternions can be used for true Phong shading and also for related techniques that use frames, like bump mapping and anisotropic shading. Quaternion interpolation for shading has not been proposed in literature and the reason might be that it turns out to be mostly of academic interest, and it will here be explained why. Further...
متن کاملBump Mapping
Blinn [1] introduced bump mapping as a technique that makes a surface appear rough or wrinkled. This affect is achieved by perturbing the normals used in the illumination computation. Hence, it only affects the shading, not the underlying geometry. The bump map can contain height values that will affect the normal of each pixel. However, it can as an alternative contain normals that have been c...
متن کاملRendering Details on Simplified Meshes by Texture Based Shading
In this paper we present a way to use OpenGL 1.2 compliant graphics hardware for fast shading with textures containing detailed information about the normals of an object. The procedure is similar to bumpmaps and the goal is to shade a simpliied mesh approximately the same way the original mesh is shaded. First, we explain how to implement a Phong shaded and lighted dot product bumpmap using a ...
